Jewish Studies

Jewish Studies Degree Programs

Spertus College offers masters degrees in Jewish Studies, Jewish Education and doctoral degrees in Jewish Studies (as well as a masters in Nonprofit Management through the Center for Nonprofit Management). Each year approximately 300 students are enrolled, locally or through distance learning, in graduate degree programs accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges. Spertus College also serves thousands of continuing education learners each year.

Distance Learning

Distance Learning is currently available for the Master of Science in Jewish Studies (MSJS), the Master of Science in Jewish Education (MSJE), the Doctor of Jewish Studies (DJS), and the Doctor of Science in Jewish Studies (DSJS) programs. The academic standards and requirements for courses taken through Distance Learning are identical to those for courses taken at Spertus' Chicago campus – only the methods of course delivery are different. Students who opt to take their degree primarily through Distance Learning have complete flexibility as to when they wish to "attend" classes, according to their individual schedules.

What are the benefits of the Spertus Distance Learning program?

  • convenience and flexibility of home study
  • extensive resources for students with little geographical access to graduate-level Jewish Studies
  • multi-faceted program delivery (including course packages of audio/video tapes, intensive week-long summer seminars in Chicago, independent study, and directed reading courses)

Spertus is a Jewish institution grounded in Jewish values that invites people of all ages and backgrounds to explore the multi-faceted Jewish experience. Through its innovative public programming, exhibits, collections, research facilities and degree programs, Spertus inspires learning, serves diverse communities and fosters understanding for Jews and people of all faiths, locally, regionally and around the world.
