Karin Baird
Dr. Baird is a lifelong contributor to the nonprofit sector. She began her career as a volunteer, mostly involved with corporate relations and fundraising and also served in a number of local government-elected positions, which led to her interest in the Master of Science in Human Services Administration (MSHSA) program at Spertus. After serving as the Director of Public Relations for the Dane County Chapter of the American Red Cross in Madison, Wisconsin, Karin was offered a position in public relations with the Red Cross in Washington, D.C.—her first job out of college.
After completing her MSHSA degree at Spertus, Karin became the Executive Director of the Chicago District of the U.S. Tennis Association, an ideal position for someone who has played competitive tennis for 25 years.
Dr. Baird earned her Ph.D. at the University of Illinois at Chicago, focusing her research on a 50-year historical case study of Hispanic parent/public school relationships in the Midwest during the last half of the 20th Century.
Dr. Baird taught Organizational Leadership, Social Policy and Ethics in the mid 1990's for three years, then returned to Spertus in 2004, where she now teaches Social Policy and serves as Academic Advisor to MSMN students.
